Erie County deputies arrested a camp counselor Friday morning after he admitted to performing a sexual act on a teenage boy at Beulah Beach Christian camp in Vermilion Township.
Justin James, 20, of Columbus, was charged with sexual battery and is being held in the Erie County jail without bond.
The alleged incident happened at about 3 a.m. in a college-style dorm at the Christian camp on West Lake Road, deputies said.
The victim, 16, reported the incident to Robert Joe Dewhurst, a youth pastor from Columbus-based Judah Christian Community Church, which had a group of children staying at Beulah Beach this week.
Deputies learned about the allegations at about 10 a.m. Friday, when they got a phone call from a man who said he is a federal police officer.
Deputies promptly picked up James for an interview, and he soon admitted he had sexual contact with the boy, Chief Deputy Jared Oliver said
