BEREA, Ohio — A five month investigation into a suspected drug-making lab came to a head on Friday when authorities raided a home on Front Street in Berea and arrested three Baldwin Wallace University students.

Officials said evidence for all of the chemicals needed to make Ecstasy was found, as well as marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

The Berea Police Department and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation had been tracking the three students since May when two of them allegedly broke into a lab on campus and attempted to steal chemicals and other equipment.  However, nothing was taken.

From that point, investigators tracked the students’ text messages and went through their garbage.

“A long summer of collecting intelligence on their cell phones, their text messages and whatnot.  That culminated in a search warrant today,” said Lt. Joe Hedinger with the Berea Police Department.
