BEDFORD HEIGHTS, Ohio — Voters in Bedford Heights said “no” Tuesday to keeping Jimmy Dimora’s name on their community center.
And Wednesday, the former longtime mayor’s name came down from the facility, which will now be called the Bedford Heights Community Center.
According to unofficial election results, 67 percent voted to nix the name, while 33 percent voted to keep it.
City council placed the question on the ballot earlier this year after Dimora was convicted of 37 federal charges as part of the Cuyahoga County corruption scandal. The former commissioner was sentenced to 28 years in prison.
Also passed — 71 percent to 29 percent — was a charter amendment that restricts the naming of any municipal facilities or buildings after a person until after their death. Voters would then have to approve the name change.
